William McCrackan, son of Andrew McCrackan and Margaret McDowall, was born probably shortly before his baptism at Barnsallie, Wigtownshire, Scotland, 22 January 1736.1 He died at New Haven, Connecticut, 3 July 1809, at age 74,1 and was buried at Grove St. Cemetery, New Haven, Connecticut.1,2
William married Sarah Miles, daughter of Captain James Miles and Phebe Thompson, at New Haven 8 October 1772.1
In 1790, his household was probably the one enumerated at New Haven, New Haven Co., Connecticut, with 1 free white male over 16, 4 under 16, 5 free white females, and 2 slaves.3
William had an older brother John who died 19 Sep 1767, aged 32, at New Haven and left a will that reads in part: "My whole estate to my brothers Alexander, James and William and my sister Grisel McCrackan. My father Andrew McCrackan and my Uncle James McDoul in the Strand London to be my Executors."
William lived in New Haven for 42 years (1767-1809).
