Thomas Tarbell (Tarball or Tarbel are also common spellings) settled in Watertown as early as 1647 when he is mentioned in the records as owning land. Bond's Watertown mentions he was there by 1656 when he was 38.

30 Mar 1663, he and wife Mary sold his house and 30 acres at Watertown, along with 4 acres of remote meadow in Cambridge and they then removed to Groton. He was there granted 20 acres in 1665 for erecting a mill and was to be exempt from taxation for 20 years.

The family left Groton for Charlestown when Groton was burned during King Philip's war.

He died of small pox, and administration of his estate was granted to his son John 17 Aug 1678. The estate settlement includes two papers dated 31 May 1680 and 18 Mar 1680/1 and gives the names of his children.3,2,1
