Dorothy Harriet Pierce
Dorothy Harriet Pierce, daughter of William Jerome Pierce and Harriet Hanson Robinson, was born at Los Angeles, California, 6 February 1927.1,2,3,4,5 She died at her home at Irvine, Orange Co., California, 15 November 2013.6
A portion of Don and Dorothy's ashes were interred at Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, San Diego Co., California, 6 June 2017. The remainder were later scattered at sea off the coast of Hawaii, near Kona, in early December, 2017.7
Dorothy married Donald Force Cooke, son of Edward Ambrose Cooke and Adele La Force, at Los Angeles 30 November 1945.8,9,10
Dorothy worked for several years in the Los Angeles office of the IRS. When they were first married, Don was still in the Navy so she lived with her parents. After Don returned from the Navy, they lived in a small apartment on Redondo Beach Blvd.
She resumed her education after Jeff started school. She majored in Art and crowded a four year curriculum into 10 years. She graduated cum laude from California State University, Long Beach in 1976.
Her favorite poem was adapted from "Under a Dark Star" and known as "Deep Peace":
