Adele La Force, daughter of Walter Sylvester Force and Marion Bain Jackson, was born at Union Co., New Jersey, 18 October 1893.1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 She died at Mission Viejo, Orange Co., California, 5 October 1990. Both she and her husband were buried at Pacific View Memorial Park, Corona del Mar, Orange Co., California.11,12

Adele married Edward Ambrose Cooke, son of Dr. Henry Gansevoort Cooke, MD and Maria Burritt Cowdrey, at Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, 12 November 1913.2,13

After her mother died, Adele and her sisters were raised by their Aunt, Sarah Covel, and then sent off to boarding schools:
Adelphi Academy in Brooklyn
Packer Institute in Brooklyn for one year
Graduated from Bishopthorpe Manor in So. Bethlehem, Pennsylvania after attending two years

Adele Force's engagement announcement:
Miss Adele Force announced her engagement at a luncheon at her home, 1164 Dean Street, Wednesday of last week, to Edward A. Cooke of Red Bank. Miss Force is a cousin of Mrs. John Jacob Astor (Miss Madeline Force that was), her father, Walter Sylvester Force, being a brother of William H. Force, Mrs. Astor's father. The new fiancee's brother, Walter Bain Force, is engaged to Miss Nan (Miss Annie Maires) of Ocean avenue, Miss Maires, as will be recalled, annnouncing this at a 500 party several weeks ago.

At Miss Force's luncheon were Miss Maires, Miss Gladys Williamson, Mrs. Chester Lawson, Miss Edith Kelley, Miss Helen Willson and Miss Anne Wray.

Later, Adele said that the only reason it appeared in the paper was the connection to the Astors, and her father was very unhappy about that.

The relation to Madeline (Force) Astor is actually very distant, 3rd or 4th cousin being more accurate. The families were close, Walter and William being partners in business. Adele recalled going down to the harbor to meet Madeline after she was rescued following the Titanic disaster.

Composed by her daughter-in-law, Dorothy, the following was read at Adele's funeral:

As we remember Adele today, one quality that stands out above all the rest, is her positive attitude towards life! Many times we haver heard her say to us, "Just keep positive thoughts in your head, never negative ones, and things will work out well!" And many times throught her various illnesses, when asked how she felt, would simply reply, "Well, I'm just fine!"

She would not want us to leave here today saddened by her parting, but glad to have been enriched by her gift to us of positive thinking. So let us do just that, while we listen to a favorite poem of hers:
Sleep is a brief, sweet form of death,
a passing from the earth,
Where all is stilled, save the soft drawn breath
and waking up is birth.

Oh, we die each night for a few brief hours
Tomorrow to be reborn,
Renewed and refreshed as the springtime flowers
For the tasks of another morn.

And through man stands watch til the dawn
comes on and constant vigil keeps,
