Walter Sylvester Force, son of Ephraim Squire Force and Sarah Jane Whitehead, was born at Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, 27 March 1858.1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 He died at Middletown, Monmouth Co., New Jersey, 7 March 1936,12,2 and was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, 10 March 1936.2,13,14

Walter married (1) Marion Bain Jackson, daughter of Thomas Bain Jackson and Laura Caroline Henry, at Brooklyn, 20 September 1881;3,1,15,16,12 he married (2) Lillian Virginia Gamble, daughter of Samuel Gamble and Virginia Swain, at St. Bartholomew's, Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, 9 October 1906.4,12,17

Walter Force was senior partner of W. S. Force & Company, wholesale forwarders and shippers in New York City. He lived for the most part at 1164 Dean Street in Brooklyn. Later he purchased Long Acre Farm on Everett Road in Lincroft New Jersey. His second wife later sold the farm mid 1930's. The family business, essentially dealing in coffee importing, was passed on to his son, Walter Bain.

The children were raised for the most part at boarding school or by their great aunt, Sarah (Henry) Covel.

Walter died of an embolism brought on by a heart attack 4 days earlier. His obituary included:

"The death of Mr. Force has caused a large sense of loss in the locality where he lived. He made many friends because of his neighborly and friendly acts and his many sterling traits of character.

"Until he moved to Lincroft Mr. Force was active in civic affairs. He was a member of the Empire State Society of Sons of the American Revolution, of the Acanthus Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, and of the Montauk Club, all of Brooklyn."

He and both wives are buried in Green-Wood Cemetery, Lot 31937, Section 197, Brooklyn.
