Montagu John Wynyard, son of Lt General William Wynyard and Sarah Lilly, was born 17 February 17811 and baptised at St. Mary's, Hayes, Hillingdon, London, England, 24 March 1781. He died at West Rounton, Yorkshire, England, 14 December 1857,1,2,3 and was buried there.4

Montagu married Jane Lascelles, daughter of General Francis Lascelles, Esq. and Ann Catley, at the parish church at Burghclere, Hampshire, England, 21 February 1802.1,5,6,7

Of Rougham, Suffolk, in 1818. Sometime Captain, Coldstream Guards. Matric. Michs. 1825; B.D (Stat. Eliza.), 1827. V. of Brafferton, Yorks., 1818-1822. R of West Rounton, 1822-1857. R. of St Martin-in-Micklegate, Yorks, 1822-1857. Chaplain to the Queen. Married Feb 21, 1802, Jane, dau. of Lieut.-Gen Francis Lascelles. Died Dec. 14, 1857. Father of the above. He was from the parish of St. MaryleBone, Middlesex when he was married, and his first child was baptized there.

The front of the West Rounton parish register includes a note: "The Rev'd Montague J. Wynyard formerly an Officer in the Army was Vicar of Brafferton and in 1822 exchanged with Mr. Grey for West Rounton"

In 1832, he compiled 34 of his sermons into a 453-page book, Sermons on Christian Duties, which can be found as an eBook (including a pdf download) on Google Books.

At West Rounton, his head stone reads:
Sacred to the memory of Rev'd Montague John
Wynyard for many years Rector of
West Rounton & Martin Gregory of York
Died 11th December 1857 Aged 77 years
