Francis West, son of Matthew West, was born at England, before 1640.1 He died after September 1687.1
Francis married Susanna Soule, daughter of George Soule and Mary Buckett, about 1661.1,2,3
Francis West was probably born in Aylesworth, Buckinghamshire. His death was after the date of a tax list, but he may haved died in North Kingstown Rhode Island, 2 January 1696.
The proof that he married Susannah Soule is from a diary of Samuel West, a great grandson who wrote that his great grandfather Francis West came to America soon after the first settlement at Plymouth and married a daughter of George Soule and that his sons were Francis, Thomas, Peter, William, Richard, Clement and John and daughters Martha (who m. a Fones) and Susanna who m. a Barber).
Francis may have lived in Plymouth Colony for 20 years, but he apparently never owned any land, and the records of him are sparse. Besides the birth of their three youngest children at Kingstown, there are only a court record and a tax list.
On 29 Oct 1668, Phillip, sachem of Pocanokett, requested justice against Francis West for taking a gun from one of his men, etc. On 1 June 1669, the court ordered Francis Wast pay 30 shillings to the Indians for the hog he took and to return the gun. It appears Francis was living near Taunton at this time.
About the time of King Phillips War or when his father-in-law, George Soule died (1677) leaving only 12 pence apiece to his two daughters, the West's removed to Kingstown, Rhode Island. In the tax list of 6 September 1687, Francis Wast Sr., Francis Wast Jr., and Richard Wast were listed but only Francis Sr. was taxed, 2s. 1d.4
