Sir Edmund of Langley, K.G., 1st Duke of York, son of Edward III, King of England and Philippa Hainault, was born at King's Langley, Hertfordshire, England, 5 June 1341.1,2 He died at King's Langley, 1 August 1402,3,2 and was buried there in the church of Friar's Preachers.3

Edmund married (1) Isabel of Castile-Leon, Duchess of York, daughter of Pedro I "the Cruel," King of Castile and María de Padilla, before 30 April 1372;1,2 he married (2) Joan Holand, Duchess of York, daughter of Sir Thomas de Holand, K.G., 2nd Earl of Kent, Lord Holand, 6th Lord Wake and Alice de Arundel.3
