Phebe Stephens, daughter of Thomas Stephens and Elizabeth Cook, was born at Southampton, Suffolk Co., New York, 2 January 1681/82.1 She died 15 December 1729,2 and was buried at Mecox Cemetery, Bridgehampton, Suffolk Co., New York, where her stone is inscribed:
Here lies Burrd the Body of
Phebe Mitchell
Wife of John Mitchell
Who Decd Dembr ye 15th 1729.
Aged 42 yrs.2

Phebe married John Mitchell, son of John Mitchell and Sarah (…).3,4

Given her age at death as 42, Hoff and Macy suggest that if she was born a Stephens, perhaps the Phebe born 2 Jan 1681/2 died young and this is a second Phebe Stephens, born about 1687.5
