Matilda Caroline Higginson, daughter of Reverend John Higginson and Mary Maria Hester Wynyard, was born at Thormanby, Easingwold, Yorkshire, England, 27 August 18411,2,3,4 and baptized there, 2 November 1841.2 She died at Denver, Arapahoe Co., Colorado, 1 April 1909,5,6,7 and was buried at the Fairmount Cemetery, Denver, Arapahoe Co., Colorado, 3 April 1909.5,8

Matilda married, as his 2nd wife, William Leonard Robinson, son of William Robinson and Elizabeth Manfield, at Hillingdon, Uxbridge, Middlesex, England, 30 April 1864.9,6,7,10

Matilda had enough by 1883, and apparently at the invitation of some relatives (perhaps Higginsons), took her ten children (ranging in age from 4 to 18) and left England bound for America from Liverpool, arriving in Philadelphia, 13 March 1883, on the American Line steamer, S.S. Lord Gough.11
