Reverend John Higginson, son of John Higginson, Gent. and Sarah Ann Barrow, was born 20 August 1811,1,2,3 and baptized at St. Michael's Parish, Barbados, 19 December 1811.4 He died at Thormanby, Easingwold, Yorkshire, England, 30 May 1895,5,2 and was buried at the Parish Cemetery, Thormanby, Easingwold, Yorkshire, England, 1 June 1895.2,6

Reverend John Higginson married Mary Maria Hester Wynyard, daughter of Montagu John Wynyard and Jane Lascelles, at West Rounton, Yorkshire, England, 31 December 1835.7,8,9

Reverend John Higginson matriculated in Queens College, Oxford University, 15 Oct 1829. Earned his B. A. in 1834 and M. A. in 1836. He was rector of Thormanby, in the Easingwold district of Yorkshire, for 59 years, holding the position until he died at 84.10,2

He was ordained a Deacon by the Bishop of Chester after a letter dimissory of 1 Jan 1835, with title: St Martin cum Gregory, York, but no license was recorded in the Institution Act Books. Ordained priest by the Bishop of Gloucester after a letter dimissory of 24 June 1836. Admitted and installed as Rector of Thormanby, 6 June 1836.1
