Ranulph de Gernon, Earl of Chester, son of Ranulph III le Mechin, Earl of Chester and Lucy of Bolingbroke, was born at the Castle of Gernon, Normandy, France, about 1100.1,2 He died 23 December 1153.2

Ranulph married Maud of Gloucester, daughter of Robert Fitz Roy, 1st Earl of Gloucester and Maud Fitz Robert, before 1135.2
