Amy Jane Johnson, daughter of Levi Johnson and Harriet Rigby, was born at Jay Co., Indiana, 21 September 1856.1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 She died at Grand Junction, Mesa Co., Colorado, 5 July 1940, and was buried there.9

Amy married Winfield Scott Gardner, son of William Gardner and Mahala Jane Hunt, at Jay Co. 26 September 1874.10,11,12,13

After Winfield died, Amy divided her time among her children. She spent the summers in Gunnison, where she was well known and loved by all who knew her. She lived an active, busy life, having as a hobby in her later years, the making of beautiful quilts and other handwork, crocheting a lace tablecloth in her 83rd year. She was one of the charter members of the Christian church at Clifton. It was due to her demand for a Sunday school that led to the establishment of that church. Her funeral was held there.

Although when she died, she supposedly had lived in Gunnison three months (April - June), in fact on April 1 (date of the census) she was in Allison, Kansas, with her widowed daughter, Jesse.14,8
