Permelia Sherman, daughter of David Sherman and Sarah Fancher, was born at Troy, Rensselaer Co., New York, 14 May 1804.1,2,3,4 She died at New Lebanon, Columbia Co., New York, 30 August 1892,5,6 and was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, 2 September 1892, in the same lot (18834, section 187) as her daughter, Amelia.7

Permelia married (1) Squire L. Whitehead, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), at Troy, 12 February 1824;8 she married (2) Daniel Palmer, son of Robert Palmer and Elizabeth (…), at Troy 18 April 1837.9,10

The probate petition of her daughter, Julia Groesbeck, identifies Julia's surviving siblings and the children of her deceased sister, Mary:
that the husband, all the heirs, and all the next of kin of the said deceased are as follows, to wit: her husband your petitioner residing in the City of Brooklyn. The said deceased left no children descendants of children father but her mother Permelia Palmer, Brooklyn, one sister to wit: Sarah J wife of Ephraim Force residing in the City of New York, one brother and one half brother to wit: Sylvester Whitehead residing in the City of Brooklyn Daniel Palmer residing in the City New York, the children of Mary Hogg a deceased sister to wit: Permelia J wife of Charles A. Jackson aged twenty years residing in the City of Brooklyn Annie F Hogg aged seventeen years Mary E. Hogg aged thirteen years said infants reside with their father Charles B Hogg in the City of New York

It's unknown as to why the delay, but while the petition was filed shortly after Julia's death, Julia's will was not proved until August 1891. The will left everything to her husband, Sylvester Groesbeck.11
