Joseph Hewitt
Joseph Hewitt, son of Captain Joseph Hewitt and Mary Chesebrough, was born at Stonington, Connecticut, 2 May 1731.1 He died probably at Petersburg, Rensselaer Co., New York, after 8 November 1784, when he was named in his father's will.2,1
Joseph married Sarah Babcock, daughter of Captain Nathaniel Babcock and Sarah Billings, at Voluntown, Connecticut, 27 May 1756.2,1,3
Joseph and Sarah lived in the Stonington area until sometime before 1782 when they removed to Stephentown, Albany Co., New York (now Renesselaer Co.) After the death of his wife in 1792, he reportedly moved to Providence, Saratoga Co., but no probate or cemetery records have been found for him.1,2
