Alfonso IX, King of Leon
Alfonso IX, King of Leon, son of Fernando II, King of Leon and Urraca of Portugal, was born at Zamora, Spain, in 1171.1 He died at Villaneuva de Sarria, Spain, 24 September 1230.1
Alfonso married (1) Teresa of Portugal, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), at Guimaraes, Spain, 11 February 1191;1 their marriage was annulled for consanguinity by Pope Celestine III at the 2nd Council of Salamanca in 1194;1 he married (2), as her 2nd husband, Berenguela I of Castile "la Grande," Queen of Castile and Toledo, daughter of Alfonso VIII "el Noble," King of Castile and Eleanor of England, at Valladolid, Spain, December 1197;2 they separated due to consanguinity in 1204.2
