Alfonso of Castile–León, son of Alfonso IX, King of Leon and Berenguela I of Castile "la Grande," Queen of Castile and Toledo, was born Fall 1202.1 He died at Salamanca, Spain, 6 January 1272,1 and was buried at the castle of Calatrava–la–Nueva, Cuidad Real, Spain.1
Alfonso married (1) Mafalda González de Lara in 1240;1 he married (2) Teresa González de Lara, after September 1244;1 he married (3), as her 2nd husband, Mayor Alfonso de Meneses, daughter of Alfonso Téllez de Meneses, señor of Meneses, Montealegre, etc. and María Annez de Lima, after 22 July 1260. The ancestry of the first two wives is known, but not traced here.1
He also had several children by unknown mistresses.2,1
